Answers:

Who is this community for?

Agender Chat is run by agender people, for agender people. This blog and the Discord server are spaces designed primarily for us to build community and support each other. We also especially wish to welcome and uplift nonbinary people and transgender people of any identity. With that said, nobody should feel excluded. If you’re questioning your gender, or if you have respectful questions for us about anything (for example), please feel free to come say hi in chat. All ages and all identities are welcome.

What are chat hours?

We offer organized times throughout the week when you can be sure there are lots of people in chat - including at least one Moderator. These are the best opportunities to join for the first time. We begin each session with our weekly topic, but that is meant as a conversation starter, not a limitation. Also, while it is common to discuss our personal experiences and identities, nobody is required to talk or share if they would rather not. To suggest a topic, please send us an ask - we love getting suggestions!

When are chat hours? / How will I know when chat hours happen?

See the current weekly schedule. The blog announces the beginning and end of each chat hours session. Plus, the schedule page hosts a google calendar - feel free to add that to your own google account, and the system will adjust time zones automatically for you!

What if I can’t come to chat hours?

We offer chat hours at a variety of times throughout the week to welcome people with different schedules and from different parts of the world, but we know our schedule can’t be perfect for everyone. Luckily, Agender Chat on Discord is open 24/7/365, so there are some people online almost all the time (it just tends to be busier during chat hours). Remember that when you visit chat for the very first time, you will need to reach out to a moderator via PM so that they can set you up with access to the server. Moderators frequently hang out in chat outside of chat hours, so try logging on anytime that is convenient for you. If you have trouble reaching out to a moderator on Discord to get set up, you can also contact us another way instead.

What are the rules for Agender Chat on Discord?

Agender Chat is open to everyone. Since we welcome all ages, please keep your discussion content roughly PG-13. Remember that you can always use the private message (PM) feature if you want to. Read #rules channel on Discord, and see the full rules explanation.

Am I welcome in Agender Chat on Discord? My identity is […].

Yes!

Does Agender Chat support ace and aro people?

Yes! Asexual and aromantic people are whole-heartedly welcome on our blog, in our chat space, and as part of our community in general. They belong in the LGBTQA+ community (if they want to be a part of it, that is - individual people have every right to decide their own associations, of course). Our focus is more on gender than on sexual or romantic attraction (see Who is this community for?), but it’s super important to us to be inclusive of everyone. Plenty of agender and/or nonbinary people are ace and/or aro, after all.

How do I connect to chat on Discord?

To connect to Discord, navigate to the “Join Chat!” page using the main/top navigation bar. Then click “Follow this link to connect on Discord!” You will be asked to login (or create an account and verify your email address), then you’ll be connected!

I’m on the Discord server, but I don’t see any messages. What’s going on?

When users join Agender Chat for the first time, they are directed to a special channel called the #welcome-circle. To gain access to #main-chat and see the live conversation, you need to PM (private message) a moderator. You can see the list of online moderators in the right hand menu. If you already have chat privileges, but don’t see any messages in #main-chat, that simply means no one has said something recently. Try striking up a conversation! Note that our temporary message history keeps messages visible to everyone in #main-chat for at least five minutes after sending.

I can listen to #general-voice, but I can’t say anything back! What’s wrong?

Voice privileges are separate from text chat privileges on our server. This means that you get the opportunity to listen to voice chat before you get the access to speak up, too. If you are interested in using voice, and you don’t have the access you need yet, reach out to a moderator.

How do I get the pronouns next to my name on Discord?

It’s easy - send a direct message to any moderator and make a request! Make sure to include your pronouns in the message. Every pronoun set is respected, and you can have multiple sets associated with your username. Note that your pronouns will show up on our server only.

Chat’s not working! What’s going on?

Here are some places you can look for updates: the main blog, the #announcements channel on Discord (if that is accessible), and Discord’s status site. If you don’t see anything in those places, feel free to send an ask, a tumblr direct message, or an email to agenderchat@gmail.com. We promise we’re working to get back up and running as soon as possible!

Who runs Agender Chat?

Arnirien created this Tumblr page and the Discord channel. Information about them and the other moderators can be found on the moderators page.

(top)

How can I contact the moderators?

Check out our contact information.

(top)

How’d this get started, anyway?

Arnirien found that while the internet is an amazing resource for finding information about gender identity, it can still be really hard to find real folks to talk to who share your experiences. That’s where our chat space comes in.

Where can I learn about the terms you use (agender, nonbinary, trans, etc.)?

First, try reading our Gender FAQ. Still have questions? Feel free to send in an ask or join chat.
